PRP UNDEREYES

Most people first heard about Platelet Rich Plasma therapy several years ago, when athletes started receiving it to reduce inflammation in muscles and promote faster tissue healing from injuries. Now, PRP injection under eyes is a miracle treatment that’s actually provided by your body’s blood, whether you’re male or female, 18 or 80.

After you get a PRP rejuvenation treatment, you can get rid of dark circles under your eyes. You can be treated for sun-damaged skin. You can also seek treatments with it for fine lines and wrinkles.

PRP Explained: Liquid Gold

By drawing a small amount of blood, then placing it into our centrifuge, we spin it rapidly to create three separate layers: platelet poor plasma, platelet rich plasma, and red blood cells.

The PRP layer, which appears to look like liquid gold and is sometimes called your body’s “fountain of youth”, is a condensed mixture of growth factors and miscellaneous skin nutrients.

PRP is then injected or microneedled into the area discussed in your initial consultation, such as under your eyes to stimulate natural collagen production and to promote healing.

By the way, PRP is also known by other names, including platelet-enriched plasma (PeRP), platelet-rich concentrate (PRC), platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), and autogenous platelet gel.

What Causes Dark Circles Under Your Eyes?

There are many causes for a condition known as tear trough hollows or “enophthalmia”. Here are the most common:

  • Aging – We all tend to produce less of your body’s most abundant protein –– collagen –– as we age, which is why elderly people are most affected by darker circles under your eyes. Collagen provides your skin with strength and flexibility. But without as much of it, your eyes tend to move back into your sockets and appear to be sunken.

  • Allergies and Sinuses – Sneezing, nasal problems, and puffiness can swell up your sinuses and make your eyes look even worse, so an PRP injection under eyes can help.

  • Dehydration – When your body is dehydrated because you’re not drinking enough water, or because you’re drinking too much soft drinks and coffee, you retain less fluids.

  • Genetics – If your parents have this “sunken eyes” or “darker circles”, your DNA will probably have it, too.

  • Poor Circulation – If you have poor circulation under your eyes, this is another condition that can benefit from PRP.

  • Sleep Problems – If you suffer from interrupted sleep, taking too long to fall asleep, or just not sleeping enough throughout the night, the areas beneath your eyes can look darker than normal.

  • Smoking – Constantly pursing your lips when smoking can cause you to lose collagen and elasticity of your skin.

  • Trauma – An orbital fracture can result in taking many weeks for your eye socket to heal.

  • Vitamin Issues – Not getting enough Vitamin C, Vitamin K, or Iron can all cause you to be undernourished.

  • Weight Loss – If you lose too much weight too fast, the more prominent blood vessels under your eyes can become more evident.

Why Do You Need to Get Rid of Dark Circles in Your Tear Troughs?

Unless you’re blessed with perfect skin, just about all of us develop dark circles under our eyes over time. Using PRP injections to treat this problem is a very common and increasingly popular cosmetic procedure.

When injected carefully and safely by  our Dr and Nurse a PRP injection under eyes can be a quick and effective treatment to improve your overall appearance, help with the hollowness of your eyes, enable you to look less tired, and even make you look younger.

Who Is A Good Candidate For PRP?

Most male and female patients of any age and skin tone can benefit from a PRP treatment to:

  • Improve the skin’s quality

  • Lighten pigmentation

  • Brighten your eyes

  • Dissipate dark spots or dark circles under your eyes

  • Help remove visibly large pores, sun damage, fine lines, and stretch marks.

However, while this project is likely safe since pregnant women or those nursing their babies are using their own natural blood, this patient population has not been tested for PRP injections, so we do not offer this treatment to this group.

The areas that are most often helped with this particular treatment include:

  • Your tear troughs

  • Your skin

  • Your hair to treat hair loss

We recommend a consultation with our Dr and Nurse to determine if PRP on your face, especially under your eyes, is the best treatment for you.

Will This PRP Treatment Be Painful?

No, it’s not.  We will first apply topical numbing cream or inject you with a medical- grade numbing agent, followed by the PRP treatment. The numbing agent improves the comfort of the injection by reducing your sensitivity to pain.

Most of our patients describe this as very comfortable. Any concerns about pain for PRP injection under eyes will be addressed in your initial consultation.

What Precautions Should You Take for a PRP Injection on Treatment Day?

For optimal results to get rid of dark circles, we recommend that you avoid facials, waxing, steam, and saunas in the treatment area the same day of your appointment.

You should avoid blood thinners and medications, such as aspirin and Plavix, which may increase facial bleeding. Finally, you should avoid drinking any alcohol and applying any makeup. If you have any concerns, please discuss them with Our Dr and Nurse during your pre-treatment consultation.

Are There Any Side Effects After The Procedure?

Side effects are rare for injections of PRP, but may include some of the following temporary reactions:

  • Bruising

  • Discoloration

  • Firmness

  • Itching

  • Lumps or bumps

  • Pain

  • Redness

  • Swelling

  • Tenderness

Within about one week after your injections, the majority of your swelling should be reduced, but you may have some bruising. But after two weeks, any bruising and swelling should be gone –– and you should look great!

Also, you should hold off wearing makeup for at least 3 to 6 hours after your procedure to enable your skin to heal more safely and quickly.

What Are The Results?

Typically, withdrawing a small sample of your blood, spinning it in a centrifuge, then injecting your PRP takes approximately 30 minutes, though the length of time depends on the area(s) being treated.

You should also allow another 30 minutes prior to the procedure so that we can apply medical-grade topical numbing to the area. In addition, there is no downtime, and discomfort is minimal.

Results can be seen immediately, though new collagen usually takes about three months to build. You should also know that patients have noticed a significant benefit to scheduling long-term maintenance procedures to see continuous results.

Who Should Not Get PRP Injection Under Eyes Treatments?

PRP injections are typically considered safe because they use a patient’s own tissues. However, patients who should not get this treatment include anyone who has a medical condition or an active infection that could get worse or spread because of injections, a metastatic disease, certain skin diseases, blood or bleeding disorders.

As mentioned above, pregnant or nursing women should also not receive this treatment.

What is the Cost to Get Rid of Dark Circles Under My Eyes?

The cost for any non-invasive cosmetic procedure like a PRP injection always depends on the number of appointments and the number of injections that you may need to achieve optimal results. All of your questions will be answered by Our Dr and nurse during your initial consultation.

What Are Aftercare Instructions for PRP?

We take the time to meet with every patient in our clinic to discuss treatment options –– before, during, and especially after a procedure.

This is particularly important after a PRP injection where it is typical to notice some swelling, a bit of bruising, red puncture marks, soreness, or itchiness.

Please note that any post-injection issues listed below are common and should resolve themselves within the next few days or up to a week or longer. Your final, optimal results will usually be seen about two weeks after your treatment.

After that, we can access whether you will need other treatments for sunken eyes to achieve your aesthetic goals in our clinic.

What to avoid after getting PRP injections:

  • We recommend that you not schedule any important events for at least 3 to 6 days post-procedure because swelling can occur.

  • Please do not touch your face for at least 6 hours after your treatment; you can then use water and a gentle cleanser.

  • Do not put pressure on the treated area by sleeping on your face or performing any exercises by putting your face below your heart.

  • Do not use a steam room or sauna for at least two weeks after your PRP injection under eyes treatment.

  • Do not engage in vigorous physical activity for 12 hours.

  • Do not use AHA, Retinols, Vitamin C, or oil-based make-up for 3 days.

  • Do not wash your face with hot water for 3 days.

  • Do not exfoliate your incision site for 5 days.

  • Do not consume alcohol, coffee, or fish oil for 2 days.

What to take for pain relief for fillers under your eyes.

  • We recommend Tylenol (Acetaminophen) for any discomfort; you should avoid Ibuprofen, Motrin, or Advil for the first 3 days after your procedure.

  • Avoid NSAIDS and other blood thinners which can lead to increased bruising.

What to do about bruising and swelling:

  • If you do experience bruising and swelling under your eyelids, which is typical, apply a cool compress or arnica gel.

Follow-up appointments:

  • Wei will review the results of your PRP injection 2 to 4 weeks after your appointment.

  • However, an earlier appointment will not enable the dermal filler enough time to fully activate for optimal results.

What Are Other Treatments to Get Rid of Dark Circles Under Your Eyes?

Among all of the options available with different strengths, We prefer and recommends specific dermal fillers.

Specifically, when injected into tissue, filler helps by supporting your mid-cheek. This placement can help lift and support the under-eye area, then is supplemented with a softer hyaluronic acid (HA) filler for your eyes.
